Minutes of the WVHGC ordinary monthly meeting held on Saturday the 26th of June 2010

Present:

Minutes from the previous meeting:

  • Accepted as read.

Matters arising:

  • Emergency site signage, presentation being made to the VHGA
  • Ben Nevis BOM weather station, letter sent the BOM raising concerns about the inaccuracies of the weather station, response received stating that the BOM are looking at some tree removal to remedy the problem.
  • Parachute Repack, to be held on Saturday the 18th of September 2010, hall to be booked. Action Phil Campbell.
  • Ben Nevis streamer poles, done.
  • Safety Officers Workshop, to be booked with Rohan Holtkamp. Action Anthony Meechan.
  • Ben Nevis risk assessment, draft sent to Mark Pike, changes to be made and resubmitted. Action Phil Campbell.
  • Dale Appleton to be contacted regarding Parks Vic preferred signage. Action Phil Campbell.

Reports:

President:

  • We all need to be aware that there are new regulations in force requiring that all aircraft operating within ten nautical miles of a radio controlled airport must carry and be licensed to use a VHF radio. The HGFA was contacted for comment and input during the development of these regulations but none was made.

Secretary:

  • Not in attendance

Treasurer:

  • Not in attendance, report as follows, $4,492 cash at bank, 66 financial members currently.

Senior Safety Officer:

  • Not in attendance, report as follows. Some novice pilots are purchasing intermediate gliders whilst still rated novice, all pilots including Novice and Intermediate should gain their next rating before flying a more advanced glider.

Site Committee Chairperson:

  • Warrick Raglan Rd is now open, Cave Hill track and Dairy Maid road are still closed.
  • Cave Hill landing paddock is under crop, other paddocks are available as well as the Raglan airstrip.
  • Working Bee was held today, Mt Lonarch launch cleaned up and wind sock installed in landing paddock. Wind sock installed at the Raglan airstrip. Streamer poles installed at Ben Nevis launch Thank to Randal Clotworthy, Con Nicolandos and James Wynd.

Pilot Development:

  • Dynosaurers Portland flyin, one days flying only, not much wind.
  • Mt Elephant now officially closed.
  • Ride the Spiral Comp over the Melbourne Cup weekend, cost $110 which includes accommodation at the Mt Beauty Bush Lodge. Scoring is total distance over the four days, registration online and must register to Leonardo scoring system. Contact Will Faulkner for details.
  • Dynamic Flight Park is closed for car towing due to wet paddocks and lambing ewes, aero towing still available.
  • Aero tow weekend to be organised on the 31st of July 2010, streamer cutting, water bombing etc. Aero tow endorsements mandatory for inclusion.

General Business:

  • Club AGM to be held on Saturday the 28th of August 2010 at the Golden Age Hotel Beaufort, Rob Van Der Klooster to chair.
  • Hang Glider pilots are requested to attend the VHPA AGM as there are not enough Hang Glider pilots on the committee, date to be advised.
  • Will Faulkner is now supplying canvas glider bags, contact Will for details.
  • Safety Officers workshop to be held, intermediate and advanced pilots as well as current safety officers to attend. Extra Senior Safety Officer to be considered, date and time of workshop to be advised.
  • List of current club safety officers to be obtained from the HGFA, action Phil Campbell.

Buy and Sell:

  • Steve Norman, Flytec 4005 Vario $175
  • Rob Wemban, Base Bar Wheels $150
  • Andy Shmidt, Fun 160 plus harness plus assorted equipment, contact Andy.
  • Will Faulkner, C4 13 base bar $110, C4 13 microdrag base bar $160

Eagle Award:

  • Con Nicolandos, first tow in eighteen months and stayed up in light lift, 2 votes.
  • Phil Campbell, first solo flight in the trike, 5 votes.
  • Tim Leed, got to the Airy’s Inlet lighthouse and back in a fun, 2 votes.
  • Will Faulkner, flew new Rev at the flight park and had all good landings, 3 votes.
  • Nathan Scott, stayed up at Portsea with a bunch of Para Gliders, 2 Votes.
  • Phil wins.

Fruit Bat Award:

  • Phil Campbell, not checking his harness and having to land, 7 votes.
  • Nathan Scott, dragging his belly through the bushes launching at Portsea, 2 votes.
  • All the pilots that flew Ben More today, drinking coffee and hot chocolate in the landing paddock, Randall was the only one to have a beer, 4 votes
  • Phil wins.

Presentation:

  • By Will on postings onto the club website, easy and pilots are encouraged to post flights etc on the website.
