I took over from Phil last October after Phil after he had an unexpected life style change.

During the last 12 months we have had many success’s including growing to 66 members, new T-shirts, Website upgrades including uploading of minutes and member content, site working bees including windsocks, club camping trips to Johanna and Langhi Ghiran, novice towing days at the flight park, VHF radio endorsements and safety officer workshops, regular guest speakers, site emergency marker program, club trip to Tasmania and submissions to the BOM.

I would also like to thank the outgoing committee for all their hard work and for making the effort to get to Deer Park for meetings, also other club members that have put in a great deal of effort over the year.

Secretary:

Not a lot to report, invitation received for the Friends of Mt Cole and Pyrenees Ranges Inc AGM on Sunday the 12^th of September as the club is a member.

Phil Campbell will be attending as he is an individual member.

Senior Safety Officer:

There have been several hang gliding incidents during the year that resulted in a couple of injuries.
There have also been two trike rollovers on landing that resulted in significant damage to the aircraft but no injuries.
Incident/Accident reports were filled out for incidents which goes a long way to identifying and reducing risks, all pilots are encouraged to do these reports.
Safety Officers workshop was successful with all attendees doing well.
VHF Radio Certification also went well with all attendees passing.

Pilot Development:

Parachute repack to be held on Saturday the 9^th of October at the Beaufort Secondary College.
Ride the Spiral Comp to be held on the Melbourne Cup weekend, details on the website.
Aerotowing at the flight park is now a goer with three tug pilots operating.
Dynamic Flight Park is still closed for car towing due to wet paddocks until the 22^nd of September. Aerotowing is still possible.

General Business:

Site emergency marker program is ongoing.
Box to be setup at the flight park hanger for club gear.
Idea put forward to include the word Trike in the club name, to be discussed.
Rachelle Guy has lost a radio.
Weather station will take $250 to repair, Tasmania HG club has gone cold on buying it, possibility of it going at Johanna, committee to discuss.
Nicky has donated some old T Shirts to the club, auctioned on the night, proceeds to the club.

Buy and Sell:

Dean Bailey has a VHF radio to sell.
Rohan has a hanger full of gliders and gear for sale.

Eagle Award:

James Wynd for flying at Nevis when all others pulled the pin and he then walked up the hill.
Con Nicholandus for flying alone at Three Sisters.
James wins with six votes

Fruit Bat Award:

James Wynd for flying by himself at Nevis.
Phillip Campbell for dropping the DR650 on his foot.
Phil wins with six votes.

CTAF Frequencies and Waypoints files added to the ‘Downloads’ page in the ‘Members Area’

Here is the .GDB file for mapsource which lists (I think) all registered or certified CTAFs in the country. The list was originally posted on a forum by John Reynoldson in .KMZ format, so I won’t guarantee it is complete. CTAF boundaries do not apply in CTA but they have been included. I have created proximity circles for .KMZ format, and I have changed the data to a garmin format, added proximity circles, and added CTAF frequencies for all Victorian waypoints. 

 This data is subject to change due to ERSA updates, there is a link to ERSA in the ‘waypoint properties’ in the .GDB file and in the ‘CTAF names’ tag in the .KMZ file. These waypoints are only to be used as a guide to route planning. Pilots should check ERSA to ensure the information is current and correct. http://www.airservices.gov.au/publications/aip.asp

The club is holding a VHF Radio Operator Endorsement and Safety Officers Course on the weekend of the AGM. If you plan to fly within 10 N-miles from a Certified or Registered airport or plan to fly in any upcoming comps, then I urge you to book in and take advantage of these club events and activities.  You may find that in future, comp organisers may require a vhf radio endorsement as part of the entry conditions. It looks as though Car 166 is here to stay and we will have to learn to live with the new rules in some way, shape or form.

We currently have 63 financial members in the WVHGC.

Our bank balance as of 29 July, 2010 stands at $3,587.25.

All outstanding cheques have now been presented.

This figure does not include any saleable assets that the club owns such as beer, T- shirts and hats.

Tax invoice tabled for $1,859 for the club T-shirts.

The WVHGC Annual General meeting is on Saturday the 28th August at the Golden Age Hotel, Beaufort. Dinner will be available in the ‘Back Room’ from 7pm. The current committee will stand down and a new committee selected. If you feel you would like to take a more active part in the running of the club, then consider standing for a position. The current committee comprises of:

The club would like to see some ‘new blood’ on the committee. It doesn’t matter what level pilot you are, there are plenty of past and present committee members to lend a hand. The Club VHF Radio Operator Endorsement  will be held on Saturday the 28st of August to cater for the new CASA radio carriage requirements. The half day course will cover both theory and practice.

The latest dvd “Operations at Non-Towered Aerodromes” is required by propective endorsees. These free dvds (postage only cost) can be ordered from www.casa.gov.au Use their search button for “operations at non-towered aerodromes”. Rohan also has some as well if required $3 to cover postage.

We envisage also running a Safety Officers course on the same day to those interested in applying for a position. The event will be conducted at Dynamic Flight.

Cost is $55 and will include lunch and refreshments.
